Rakuten Europe Launches Cashless Payment App Rakuten Pay at Davis Cup by Rakuten Madrid Finals

Luxembourg, November 25, 2021 – Today, Rakuten Europe announced the launch of the Rakuten Pay App at the Davis Cup by Rakuten, providing fans and visitors with the opportunity to pay cashless at Madrid Arena. Rakuten is the Global Innovation and Entertainment Partner and Global Presenting Partner of the Davis Cup by Rakuten, the premier international team event in men’s tennis.

Rakuten Pay: Cashless payment solution

At live events around the world, the Rakuten Pay App is smoothly connecting visitors and fans via a smartphone app that facilitates cashless payments, providing a convenient way for consumers to make purchases without having to bring cash to venues.

Now also available at the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals, held from November 25 until December 5, visitors can make purchases at the merchandise store via the Rakuten Pay app and earn points and gifts while doing so. In addition to a welcome bonus, payments over 50€ will be rewarded with exclusive R Pay and Davis Cup by Rakuten co-branded goods such as backpacks and battery chargers.

All benefits at a glance:

  • Bonus of 500 welcome Rakuten Points for downloading and registering on the Rakuten Pay app, which will be granted within 25 hours after activation.
  • Rakuten Points for every purchase of tickets or merchandise at Madrid Arena.
  • An exclusive gift, such as a co-branded backpack or battery charger, when spending €50 or more on merchandise at the event*[1].
  • Rakuten Points can be used to rent the latest movie releases on Rakuten TV, for vouchers on Rakuten.es to spend at major retailers, vouchers for the best new reads on Kobo e-books as well as international calls through Rakuten Viber.

These messages will be printed on tennis balls and canvas to create 19 unique art installations, each dedicated to a different team with a special one dedicated to all fans, spread across Madrid Arena in Madrid, Olympiahalle in Innsbruck and Pala Alpitour in Turin.

About the Davis Cup

Founded in 1900, Davis Cup by Rakuten has grown to become the largest annual world championship in sport, with 142 nations entered in 2021. The new Finals format, which sees the top 18 nations compete to be crowned Davis Cup champions, was introduced in 2019 with Spain winning the title in Madrid. The 2021 Finals – held from 25 November until 5 December – will see the 2019 semi-finalists and two wild card nations joined by the 12 winning teams from the 2020 Qualifiers. Madrid will be the host city for the group stage, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of this year edition, while Innsbruck (Austria) and Turin (Italy) will be host cities for the group stage and the quarter-finals. The Finals have been held since 2019 with the support of the Greater Madrid and Madrid City Council.
